Friendship Lunch

The Friendship lunch is in a new place!

St. John’s United Church Hall, 400 Prescott Street

The aim of the Friendship Luncheon Ministry is to reach out to the whole Community of North Grenville by providing a nourishing meal and Christian fellowship. This outreach provides a friendly, caring haven where people from diverse age groups, belief systems and circumstances feel comfortable and share in friendly association. There is no charge for the meal although donations are appreciated.

The Friendship Lunch is available from October through May on Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m

The beginning
The Friendship Lunch Program began in 1999 as the St James Hospitality Kitchen with a group of volunteers from the Parish who saw a need to provide a hot meal on a weekly basis for both nourishment and fellowship for members of the Community who were less fortunate. Over the years participation grew from about a dozen to an average of 40 on a normal Friday and over 70 on “feast” days.

Now including many Churches

Early in 2006, Parish Council looked into including other Churches in the area in the endeavour and received an enthusiastic response. So at the beginning of the fall 2006 season, it was decided to rename the Kitchen to reflect its ecumenical nature; hence the Friendship Lunch was born. The Salvation Army has taken on the role of coordinating volunteers, scheduling, financial administration and, together with participating Churches in the community, providing lunch on rotation.

The Friendship Lunch menu alternates each week between a soup and sandwich lunch, and a hot entree. On special occasions such as Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, a traditional turkey dinner may be available. A variety of desserts are provided with coffee, tea and juice.

All are welcome to come and enjoy food and fellowship!
